Kaur’s poems are often short and simple – sometimes described as ‘too mainstream’ by poetry critics, but at the end of the day I think that’s precisely what makes them so impactful. Her syntax is straight-forward and as someone who isn’t a poetry afficionado, it doesn’t leave me confused or feeling out of my depth, like some of the more traditional, celebrated poetry, can. By stripping away the layers of complexity often associated with poetry, Kaur’s work makes the magic of writing and storytelling more accessible to the masses (thanks, in no small part as well, to the power of social media). Rupi Kaur’s poems find the words for situations that many of us struggle to articulate, making her poetry so relatable. Plus, I think that anything encouraging more people to turn to reading, writing, and daily reflection can only be a good thing, right?
The Power of Poetry: Finding Mindfulness and Reflection Through Rupi Kaur’s Words
Poetry has a unique way of grounding us, helping us slow down and reconnect with ourselves in a world that often feels overwhelmingly fast-paced. The process of reading then sitting in thought and reflecting means poetry (much like colouring) can be an incredible tool for mindfulness and calm. Kaur’s love poems in particular have a way of reaching into the tender corners of our hearts, offering solace and understanding. In this post, I’m sharing some of my favourite poems from Rupi Kaur – pieces that speak to love, heartbreak, and the universal human experience. Because our humanity and sharing of our experience is what validates and brings us meaningful connection. They may not be the ‘best poems’ or only thing to turn to during tough times, but they’re certainly a beautiful place to start. If you’re a fan of Kaur’s work, curious to explore the world of modern poetry, or are simply looking for a sweet love poem or two to articulate your feelings – I hope these verses will inspire you to pause, reflect, and maybe even pick up a pen yourself! Born in India and raised in Canada after immigrating as a child, Kaur draws deeply from her personal experiences to explore themes of adversity, struggle, and the complexities of the human experience. Her poetry often focuses on feminism, immigration, and relationships, offering raw and relatable reflections on life’s challenges and triumphs. Kaur pairs her words with simple, line-drawn illustrations in her signature style. These visuals add a rich, creative dimension to her poetry, creating a multifaceted experience that invites readers to engage with her work on multiple levels. Love Poems for Him Poems About Heartbreak Heartfelt Love Poems i told the flowers what i’d do for you and they blossomed – rupi kaur is how you teach others to love you – rupi kaur more awake more electric more alive than you – rupi kaur than the human heart which shatters over and over and lives – rupi kaur but you were the love that made all the other loves irrelevant – rupi kaur stand in your way they make space for you to step forward – rupi kaur than the sound of you reading out loud to me the perfect date – rupi kaur a place that grounds your life where you go to take the day off the one – rupi kaur – rupi kaur without even touching me – rupi kaur – rupi kaur – rupi kaur takes my hand i will hold you with the other and promise to find you in every lifetime – rupi kaur should crumble for better reasons but have you seen that boy he brings the sun to its knees every night – rupi kaur i put my hands in his lap and whisper you are every hope i’ve ever had in human form – rupi kaur on my mind before reaching for my waist my hips or my lips he didn’t call me beautiful first he called me exquisite how he touches me – rupi kaur in the world but i wanted to be his – rupi kaur it won’t be love at first sight when we meet it’ll be love at first remembrance cause i’ve seen you in my mother’s eyes when she tells me to marry the type of man i’d want to raise my son to be like – rupi kaur – rupi kaur has my legs spread apart like an easel with a canvas begging for art – rupi kaur – rupi kaur i’ll be the greatest loss instead – rupi kaur with honesty let us end in it too us – rupi kaur you laugh at the indeciseveness of love remember when you were sure the last one was the one and now here you are redefining the one all over again a fresh love is a gift – rupi kaur is an easy thing but to love takes strength everyone has but not all are willing to practice – rupi kaur and when love comes love will hold you love will call your name and you will melt sometimes though love will hurt you but love will never mean to love will play no games cause love knows life has been hard enough already – rupi kaur i love you means i want to love you sometimes i love you means i’ll stay a little while longer sometimes i love you means i’m not sure how to leave sometimes i love you means i have nowhere else to go – rupi kaur – rupi kaur a lover and a dreamer and that will be the death of me – rupi kaur to fill the empty parts of me i want to be full on my own i want to feel so complete i could light a whole city and then i want to have you cause the two of us combined could set it on fire – rupi kaur love is our actions love is giving all we can even if it’s just the bigger slice of cake love is understanding we have the power to hurt one another but we are going to do everything in our power to make sure we don’t love is figuring out all the kinds of sweetness we deserve and when someone shows up saying they will provide it as you do but their actions seems to break you rather than build you love is knowing who to choose – rupi kaur – rupi kaur – rupi kaur Send your poetry blog requests to my email: hello@jessieparker.co Or drop me a comment below.
